How long have you been doing CrossFit? What got you started? I started CrossFit in November of 2021 after finishing my last collegiate cross country season. Over the years my dad and I watched some CrossFit events on tv and when I realized my collegiate running career was over, I wasn’t quite sure what to do with myself and all my competitiveness and that’s when he suggested I try out CrossFit
What aspect of our core values of authentic, driven, and inclusive do you relate to the most? Why? Definitely driven. When I’m at the gym I am always being pushed to better myself by the coaches and the other athletes. Everyone is there to push themselves and seeing everyone else going hard makes me want to push myself even harder.
What do you most look forward to when you come to the gym? I always look forward to who is going to be in the class with me. I love the workouts don’t get me wrong, but the camaraderie of training alongside people who are just as competitive as you, brings each workout to a whole new level.
What is your favourite memory at All Level CrossFit? It’s hard to narrow down just one memory as my favourite because in my short time at All Level I have had so many amazing experiences, but if I had to chose one it would be the third workout of the Open this year with JP. JP and I are constantly battling back and forth but this week we judged each other and hearing him cheer me on and then getting to cheer him on when he was doing his bar muscle-ups was an amazing feeling.
What goals have you set for yourself in CrossFit that you’ve successfully achieved? What are your current goals? One of the goals I have achieved is to perform the RX movements for every workout. Sometimes I may drop the weight, but being able to perform the movements in the workout was one of my goals so that I would become more proficient at each one in the workout setting. My short term goal is to start using the RX weight for all of the movements in each workout and my long term goal is to make it to the Quarter Finals of the CrossFit Open next year so I’ve got a long ways to go still.
What advice do you have for someone who’s on the fence about starting CrossFit? My advice for someone who’s on the fence about starting CrossFit is that CrossFit isn’t like any other workout. Anyone can go and lift weights in the gym with their headphones in by themselves but it is so much more enjoyable to workout in a team atmosphere, where everyone is working hard and cheering each other on and that’s what All Level CrossFit provides.
How has your experience at All Level CrossFit improved your life outside of the gym? Outside of the gym I am a student in St. Clair’s Pre-Service Firefighting program and the strength and conditioning that I have gained from working out at All Level for the past 6 months has helped prepare me for the intense workload that comes with being a firefighter
