October All Leveler of the month–Morgan!

October All Leveler of the month–Morgan!

What got you started in CrossFit?  How did you hear about it?

I had a friend who was a member at a gym and really liked it. It seemed daunting. I had finished personal training at another local gym but needed a way to keep the momentum going and keep active. I didn’t feel skilled or educated enough to complete my own programming or self-motivate. I did a lot of research on local CrossFit gyms and really liked what All Level stood for.

What is your favourite part about coming to the gym?

By far the atmosphere and the people. All Level has amazing coaches and members.  I’ve made a lot of great friend since joining a year ago.

What is your favourite CrossFit movement?  Least favourite?

I love deadlifting and backsquats! A month ago my least favourite may have been running but I’m learning to have a small appreciation for it these days thanks to encouraging members and coaches. I think any of the gymnastics pieces are maybe my least favourite but only because I’m not very good at them right now. Overhead squats maybe too.

What are your goals in CrossFit?

To continue to learn new movements. I’d like to get better at gymnastics pieces – that month was tough for me lol. My overall goal is to just make the decision to show up every day, continually improve in the gym, and become healthier overall. I’ve come so far but I have a long way to go.

How do you explain your newfound obsession with CrossFit?

I’m not sure it’s an obsession but it’s definitely a life style change and a shift in priority. My friends and family have been pretty supportive. Some have even dropped by All Level to check things out. The random bruises are a bit hard to explain, but I’m pretty proud of them.

What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of trying CrossFit?

Just do it! Research to find a place that has good, skilled coaches and go! Come to All Level with me!!
Be honest with them about your goals and fears. You may feel a bit defeated at first but stick with it because something you are really bad at today, you’ll be a bit better at next month if you just keep at it. True story: I didn’t eat properly before one of my onramp sessions and almost passed out. “What the hell am I doing here?” ran through my head a lot in those first few sessions. Just keep going. It gets great!

What does CrossFit mean to you?

CrossFit has showed me I can achieve way more than I ever thought I could. It’s been a real eye opener! It also means consistency and community. I have met so many great friends, and gotten to know their families.  It’s just a part of my day!

How has CrossFit helped you improve your life outside of the gym?

I am all about routine – this should not be a surprise to anyone who knows me well. Coming to All Level is one hour a day where I can clear my mind from the everyday chaos.  That workout helps set the tone for the rest of my day. The mental component is huge for me personally. I’m noticing a difference in my confidence levels, which in turns helps me to step outside my comfort zone more often.  Finally, I’ve started improving my lifestyle by eating better. If I’m going to show up 5 days a week and sweat my ass off then I may as well make things a bit easier by fueling my body better.
